ok, first day out trying out the new toy, a Garrett 250 detector.
First discovery was the fixing end of some barbed wire, very corroded.... found that on our land, before moving on to the edge of the field behind the ponds.
Walked around the edge of the wild area for an hour or so and found a few bits... a bent farm machinery pin about 6" long - nice to think it might have been something my dad farmed with 50 years ago!
other treasure from today... a bolt head, although the shape is only just there. A piece of foil from a Capri-sun OJ packet and a spiked piece of what looks like it was barbed wire.
This was just trying out the detector, but picked up a couple of lessons.... dont go out wearing steel toe capped boots, and when you dig, spread out the clumps and use the pinpointer on those, rather than down in the hole.
Roll on next weekend! Hopefully will have the second detector, planning on heading up to that old "mound" and trees my dad remembers clearing 50 years ago in Batley's field behind the ponds.
